Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia, has dismissed fabricated claims by the Royal Thai Army spokesperson that Cambodia is disrespecting the ceasefire. The spokesperson affirmed that Cambodia has strictly adhered to the ceasefire since 12:00 AM on July 28, 2025, from the moment it came into effect.
According Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, the border situation has returned to normal, just as it was before the exchange of gunfire between the two armies. She emphasized this is a crucial first step towards de-escalating hostilities and restoring peace and security. To ensure the full implementation of the ceasefire, both Cambodia and Thailand must adhere to the agreed-upon conditions.
Both sides must continue to hold meetings with defense attachés, led by the ASEAN Chair. General Maly Socheat clarified in a press conference about the current situation regarding the negotiations for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire between the Cambodian and Thai armed forces on July 29, 2025.
Lieutenant General, the spokesperson affirmed: ‘All army regions have not engaged in armed clashes with each other. This is a high commitment and strict, thorough implementation of the efforts of all leaders. Both sides must implement some conditions in the ceasefire agreement.'”
Please note that Cambodia and Thailand have agreed on an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, which became effective at 24:00 on July 28, 2025. This represents a crucial step towards de-escalating tensions and restoring peace and security.
This decision was made during a special meeting on the Cambodia-Thailand conflict held on July 28, 2025. The meeting was led, organized, and witnessed by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya, Malaysia. Attendees included Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and Acting Thai Prime Minister Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai. The United States co-organized the event, with active participation from the People’s Republic of China, all aiming to promote a peaceful resolution to the current situation.
Both sides have shown their stance and willingness to implement an immediate ceasefire and restore the situation to normalcy. They’ll also hold an informal meeting of army regional commanders on July 29, 2025. This will include Thai Regional Military1 and 2, and Cambodian Regional Military 4 and 5. Furthermore, they’ll continue to organize meetings with defense attachés, led by the ASEAN Chair, if both parties agree. The Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) meeting is scheduled for August 4, 2025, with Cambodia as the host.
